The Fashion Magazine Covers
On Newsstands This Month In Brazil

Lara Stone by Mario Testino. I love that picture of Lara, and couldn’t be happier to see it on newsstands, but why ruin it with an art direction which looks like it was done by a 5-year-old? Just generalizing here as I am sure several 5-year-olds are mature enough to avoid the use of rainbow colors on the title.

Izabel Goulart by Eduardo Rezende. The retouching is on the heavy side, she is wearing metallic diapers, and someone went insane with all the gothic bracelets and rings, but it is almost understated for a cover with Izabel, which I appreciate. It is my favorite of the four on newsstands.

Alicia Kuczman by Gui Paganini. Whose idea was it to make Alicia Kuczman look like a drag queen on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Brazil? The pink type, the composition, and the white look are great, but I can’t get over the retouching. Alicia’s Elle August cover was a lot better.

Daiane Conterato by Marcelo Krasilcic. Not a big fan of the styling or the art direction, but it is by far the best cover L’Officiel Brazil has had since the relaunch of the magazine. Bonus points for booking Daiane, who rarely appears in other Brazilian magazines, and yet has consistently booked more important shows season after season than many of the girls featured in other national publications.

Actress Mariana Ximenes by Zee Nunes. Is this for real? Sorry, but nothing about this cover says GQ to me.

Thana Kuhnen In Dior Haute Couture
By Marcelo Krasilcic

L’Officiel Brazil has been a complete disappointment (and quite a mess in every aspect to be honest) since its relaunch three months ago under a new editorial team. This month, however, there is a beacon of hope for the publication with an amazing story on Raf Simons’ debut haute couture collection for Dior, shot in Paris by Marcelo Krasilcic. It is a shame the magazine didn’t turn this story into its August cover because it is by far the best story to grace the pages of the magazine since its relaunch.
